Elizabeth Xiong Medical Bills

My family and I are hoping to raise funds to help with Elizabeth's recent medical expenses in the ICU. She was intubated, and had pneumonia, a fever, and high blood pressure that took ~3 days to find the appropriate medications to manage it. Elizabeth is back home now after being in the ICU for one week and is recovering.

Here's her story:

My name is Elizabeth Xiong, I have a chronic kidney disease called IgA Nephropathy. I started doing at-home dialysis at the end of March 2022. Having this condition also caused me to have high blood pressure, which is being managed with medications.

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, while on a trip in upper Michigan, I was having difficulties breathing and went to the ER by ambulance. I was in respiratory distress, was intubated immediately, and got sent to a bigger hospital as they did not have the right equipment for me. I ended up in the ICU at Saint Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI. As told by the doctors and nurses, my breathing difficulties began with my blood pressure being too high which caused fluid to get into my lungs.

I was unconscious from Tuesday until Thursday and was able to interact with my family again through hand gestures, then writing words out on my sister’s phone. I finally was able to fully open my eyes and got extubated (removal of the breathing tube) on Thursday around 7 p.m. From there, I stayed an extra 5 days in the ICU fighting a fever, having my blood pressure monitored, then improving some daily skills. Once I was able to walk and my blood pressure was better managed, I was finally approved to go home. I am so happy to be alive, and so thankful to have such a good care team.
