Ellen Dorgan-Willman Memorial Lending Library
Hello,
My name is Michael and I am raising funds to create a memorial lending library in my mother's name. My mother, Ellen Dorgan-Willman, passed away peacefully on September 2nd 2021. A voracious reader, she was rarely found without a book in her hand or sitting next to her half-read. She was so interested in literacy that she also served as a volunteer English tutor at the Plymouth Public Library, helping people improve their English reading and writing skills. My father and I would ask for donations to be made towards this project in lieu of flowers, so that we may create a memorial that will live on in her stead to continue her mission of increasing literacy and bringing the joys of a good book to as many people as possible.
The goal of this project is to purchase books, carts and other necessary materials to create small lending libraries to place in hospitals such as Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth, so that patients and families who are forced into extended hospital stays can have the comfort of a good book to keep them company and entertain them in such a trying time.
The focus will be on classic novels in different genres, with a selection of popular books that would entice any reader, as well as some spiritual books to help guide people in their time of need.
If our goal of $1000 is met, we will be able to purchase two carts and fill them with a selection of books - with the ability to keep them stocked going forward. Every additional $500 raised will allow us to expand this program into additional hospitals. These carts will be actively managed by volunteers who will regularly check them, refill the carts with books and ensure that the program is meeting its goals.
