16 yr old bikes 110 miles for vet's
Donation protected
My name is Ellerbe Kinard, and I am 16 years old. I currently live in Columbia, SC with my mom Louisa Zimmerman, my step-dad Eric Zimmerman, and my grandparents Bill and Louisa Campbell.
This is my 2015 - 2016 school year community service project:
On April 24-26, 2016, I will be participating in an inspiring, two-day, 110-mile bicycle and hand cycle ride from the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia to the historic Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This ride will be in honor of our injured military veterans and includes more than 600 veterans and active-duty participants with injuries ranging from amputation to paralysis to blindness to post-traumatic stress (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Held annually since 2006, the Face of America ride is one of the largest non-competitive bicycling events in the Washington, D.C. area. In 2014, 600 riders participated in the ride - many of whom came from across the United States and Canada.
I’d like to ask you to support me in this year's ride through a financial donation. Each able-bodied participant is riding in support of our injured veterans, many of which have personal connections. I am riding in honor of my father, a South Carolina US Army Purple Heart Veteran who suffers from PTSD and TBI ; my uncle, a South Carolina US Army active duty JAG officer; and my grandfather, a South Carolina USMC Vietnam Disabled Veteran.
I am raising money to cover the costs for the ride (travel, hotel, food, water, cycling jersey, etc…) and to support my overall mission of helping organizations provide veterans with much needed services. This year, I am riding to support the SD Gunner Fund. The SD Gunner Fund assist’s veterans and disabled children with the financial expense of owning much needed service animals. SD Gunner Fund has partnered with Outrider USA and will be providing me with their brand new, electric, all-terrain trike (a $15,000 value) to ride during my journey.
My fundraising goal minimum is $6,500.00. This will cover my expenses and fundraising fee's ($500) during the ride, and pay for a service animal to be trained and provided to a disabled veteran at no cost to the veteran ($6,000). I will also have the opportunity to help train and name the service dog.
I have several options for fundraising. All donors will be recognized on all of SD Gunner Fund’s social media sites unless otherwise noted.
Please note: ANY and ALL monies will be greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart.
Option 1. Donors with a minimum contribution of $2,500 will also receive a custom plaque in recognition of your donation with a photo of me completing the ride. Press releases will be sent to all local and national media recognizing all donors.
2. For donations in increments of $25,000 you will receive all the above + the brand new, fully loaded, 2016 Outrider USA Horizon Trike (a $15,000 value). You may choose to keep the trike or donate it back to SD Gunner Fund for an even greater opportunity to assist a disabled veteran! If you choose to do so, You will have the opportunity to personally (as an individual or a company) present the trike to a South Carolina Disabled Veteran. You may view the Horizon at:
