Elliott’s Battle

Donation protected
#TeamElliott In April of 2021, Elliott was diagnosed with epilepsy. In the course of the two years, his diagnosis has evolved into Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, an extremely rare and severe degenerative condition that causes multiple seizure types. The syndrome affects daily life, brain development and cognition, physical ability, and affects only around one million people in the entire world-many of whom never get seizure control and only worsen over time. Since diagnosis, Elliott has been hospitalized many times. Last week, a dangerous spike in seizures landed them at the University of Michigan. Elliott has had over 1,000 seizures since being admitted and has yet to respond to any medications. In addition to his seizures, he has severe respiratory issues causing concern for developing another pneumonia. Because of these issues, he is not strong enough to undergo a medically induced coma to slow things down. The neurology team is trying everything they can to gain some form of control of his seizures, and so far he has failed all efforts. Right now he is only awake for a few minutes at a time. Bryce and Amanda have remained by Elliott’s side through everything, and are always the last to ask for help. But between the cost of hospital stays, food, and commuting back and forth for all of his appointments for his care, things are growing increasingly more difficult. Both of them have missed so much work, much of which will end up unpaid, and will have to continue to do so. The upcoming weeks and months are unpredictable, but we know Elliott will need additional support at home which may result in one of them needing to stop working longer term. As doctors race to bring Elliott out of this crisis, please consider donating to their family to make sure they can focus on being at the hospital with him and giving him the care he needs. LGS and this specific hospital stay have shaken this family in so many ways. Each step of this is so unpredictable, with no guarantees of if and when he will get better, and what it will take to try to keep him home, safe, and healthy. They are always so strong and resilient, but this time they could really use our help. #TeamElliott
