Elsie’s Story

My name is Jayne, Elsie is a special little girl who is very close to my heart, I’m asking you to read this story and anywhere you can help we would be grateful.

Many of you know our beautiful Elsie, Born with Down syndrome.

Down syndrome is never alone it brings with it many different possible disorders and difficulties.

For Elsie the struggles continue not just with her eyesight, hearing impediments, speech and communication difficulties. Elsie is struggling daily with internal frustration.

Her mum and dad sister and brother are patient and look at all the ways to support her every need, recently Elsie is showing possible signs of ADHD or Asperger's being on the autism spectrum, but getting that diagnosis confirmed is not easy, the only way is to have a private assessment which clearly comes at a cost.

There is No support.

The initial consultation is £695 with additional specialist costing a further £165 per specialist (who knows how many she will need) on top of this the first prescriptions for first few months following diagnosis also have to be paid at £57 each.

Leanne and Gary are both self employed they needed to make this employment choice to support their daughter not having bosses to explain the endless visits and appointments Elsie has already had growing up. However this impacts their income as they then can not earn money when needing to attend these appointments - child care for Lewis so that he is ok while they go to various hospitals all over the place Oxford, Leicester, London & Birmingham. Every time loosing a wage for that day as well as fuel costs and child care.

I wanted to reach out to our friends and family, I know everyone’s cost of living is increasing but if you could help in any small way to support Elsie to help her get the diagnosis she needs for Leanne and Gary to start the journey in helping their daughter be heard and support her, it would be greatly appreciated.
