After battling 16 years of dementia (caused by a stroke in 2006), on April 30, 2022 our beloved mother, Elthopia Fuller has transitioned.
As an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, she leaves a rich legacy of excellence. Her endless wisdom, compassionate spirit and unconditional love has impacted both her family and extended community, for years to come.
As an brilliant educator, administrator, arts advocate and musician, the spirit of Elthopia Fuller is eternally present in Denver and beyond.
For 40 years and heavily steeped in Denver Public Schools, she has influenced generations. First she taught English and drama at Manuel High H.S. and then Cole Middle School. Later, she then cultivated faculty and the larger student body as the Assistant Principal at Smiley Middle School, where she retired. Throughout her tenure, she also coached many students who competed and won statewide Oratorical Contests.
She impacted the Denver community at large, with her passion for teaching which elevated, inspired and spread love throughout the community.
Additionally, she (vocalist) and (our father/ bassist) Fred Fuller, started our family band “Fuller Sound.” Later, this band ushered the Fuller children to perform with them ( the eldest Shamie on piano, Tia on saxophone and Ashton on drums). In 1998, Elthopia and Fred Fuller produced our only “Fuller Sound” album called “Eternal Journey.”
“Fuller Sound,” would perform frequently among the Denver Metropolitan area for the past 40 years. It is here where Elthopia was able to celebrate the totality of her love for family, education and performance.
As a mother, her love, wisdom, and sacrifice is insurmountable. Some of her favorite phrases are: 1)“the best investment that you can make is our children” 2) “always go above and beyond the call of duty” and 3) “ always surround yourself with love and light.”
In honor of our mother, Elthopia Fuller and her memorial, we would like to ask that instead of sending flowers, to contribute to the Elthopia Fuller Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This fund will be awarded to (2) high school students who are high academic standing (3.5 or higher) and has excelled in music, drama and/or speech, for continued college education.
Many blessings to you all as we commemorate the life of our beautiful mother, Elthopia Fuller.
