Elyas and Tayiba Family Refugee Flights

Elyas and Tayiba are Ethiopian refugees who arrived in Canada with their two small children in May 2019.  They had endured hunger, torture and inhumane conditions in camps in Libya and Niger. Since arriving in Canada they have worked hard and enthusiastically to make some money during COVID - Elyas through odd yardwork jobs and preparing pizzas, and Tayiba by cooking her delicious Ethiopian specialties.  They are also learning English to help improve their earning potential. They are two fine people - we are thankful to have them as friends and are glad to be able to help them settle in Canada. The children are bright, well behaved and are thriving in daycare.
UN Refugees arriving in Canada must reimburse the government for their airfare. Elyas and Tayiba have just received their bill from the Canadian government for $4,700, which they will have difficulty paying.  Help with this bill will relieve them of some of the stress in becoming self-supporting and making their way in their adopted home.
As part of a group that is helping Elyas and Tayiba to settle, I have set up this Go Fund Me campaign to try to offset some of their costs. They are always extremely grateful for everything we do for them.  At the moment they are losing sleep with worry about their family, including three children who had to be left behind back in Ethiopia during the recent conflict there; we could provide some relief by taking care of this large bill for them.
