In the early hours of the morning, my mother took a devastating fall down a flight of stairs on October 12, 2014.   My stepfather discovered her in grave condition around 7:00am and called 911.  Immediately they took her to Shock Trauma.   Shortly after arriving, a neurosurgeon informed us that she needed an emergency operation to remove part of the skull to extract a bleed in her brain.  Fortunately, the surgery went well.  As I write this, she remains in Shock Trauma in stable, but critical condition.  She will need a lot of rehabilitation, but we do not know yet how much.  Further, she will likely need to make adjustments to her dwelling to accomodate her new disabilities, whatever they may be.

While I do not yet know what types of expenses will be needed for my mother in the next weeks, months, or even years, what I do know is that she needs to focus on recovery and not on the financial burden this horrible experience may impose on her family.

My mother is an amazing woman.  She has experienced signficiant and abrupt losses in her life, losing her parents, her grandmother and her grandfather to whom she was very close, within a 10 year span.  She has also faced other unmentionable hardships throughout her life including debilitating back pain.   Despite this, she is full of energy, life, and kindness.  She is an amazing mother to my sister and I, and an outstanding grandmother to my 14 month old daughter.

I humbly ask that you make a small contribution to help my mother in her recovery.
