Embarrassed. Losing our home

A story I don’t wish to share and don’t want my friends and family to see. But here we are. 3 years ago my husband went into the hospital for over 30 days. We almost lost him. He had many months out of work and then had another medical issue having bypass surgery. In between this, I was in the hospital, we lost my father and step father. All savings we had were used and we fell behind in our mortgage. They let us do a modification but after a certain period the amount owed would be added to the monthly payment. Our payment is more than tripled. We have lived in this house for over 26 years. As much as we wish we could come up with enough to save it, we are now just looking at getting enough to by us some time to move to a rental.
