Embolden Elizabeth
We recently became friends with the Gardner family, Lisa and Chris, and their 2 daughters Sara and Elizabeth. Elizabeth is 12 years old and in the 6th grade. She has Thrombocytopenia Absent Radii, meaning she has no radius in both arms. Since birth Elizabeth has endured 30 surgeries. She is a fiesty, joyful, energetic young lady. She is witty, optimistic and full of hope. She is the strongest young lady we have ever met!!!!!
Recently she had a limb lengthening surgery on her left arm at Siani hospital, in the hopes of gaining 3 inches of bone length. This doesnt seem like much to us, but to Elizabeth this means she could brush her teeth and her hair Independently!!!!!!!!!!
It has been a slow, painful healing process with many hurdles to overcome and endure. Providing care with Lisa and Chris both working has been difficult. Elizabeth was able to return to school and Lisa went back to work in the last month. Elizabeth was looking forward to outdoor school and youth camp over the summer. Things were moving forward.
Two days ago Elizabeth fell and broke her femur in her left leg!!!! She was transported to Sinai Hospital where she underwent her 31st surgery. She is now in the hospital and will come home IN A WHEELCHAIR for 4-6 weeks!!!!!
Elizabeth will not be able to return to school, attend camp or outdoor school. Lisa will have to quit her job to provide full time care. With her left arm in a fixator, and now confined to a wheelchair, our precious Elizabeth's independence has been shattered!!!!!!
We are asking for your help. This family has had to persevere through so much. We would be grateful for your support with prayers and donations for extended care.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion.
