East Mountain Companion Animal Project (501c3) was started to serve underserved communities in New Mexico's East Mountain Area and beyond. Well, they went way above and beyond the call of duty when they received a call from an animal-savvy Santa Rosa City Counsel Member. A vehicle accident involved travelers passing through that were transporting 55 Chihuahuas in cramped conditions. The humans were taken for medical treatment, but they wisely surrendered their animals immediately. Unfortunately, the Santa Rosa Animal Control Facility only has six mostly outdoor kennels; there was no way to house all these animals safely, let alone provide the necessary medical care that every pup needs. The need here is great. Of those 55 dogs, ten are in critical condition and could not be pulled by a rescue. Sadly, some dogs did not survive the crash and the extensive injuries they suffered.
East Mountain Companion Animal Rescue and their sister rescues have stepped up to the plate and pulled all 32 animals that could be released and transported safely. This rescue would strain any rescue, let alone a small volunteer-run fostering operation like EMCAP. They need our help. Now, all the dogs have been evaluated by veterinarians with two locally run veterinary offices, with vets and tech staying well into the night to ensure these animals recover from horrific conditions. Several dogs require ongoing veterinary care to give them the best possible chance at recovery. At least 8 of the female dogs are pregnant.

Even with the best discounts possible, the vet bills are staggering. This staggering number of dogs (and volunteers) need your heart, support, and care. Please donate. All proceeds go directly to the care of these animals.

NOTE: This GoFundMe was created with the knowledge and consent of the East Mountain Companion Animal Project, and is the only approved fund for this rescue.
