MJ's Healing & Transition Fund
Donation protected
Hi & thanks for reading this! I'm MJ (they/them), and I'm a 21 yr old non-binary, disabled student of color from Gainesville, FL. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise money for mental health treatment and eventually HRT for my transitioning. As I am receiving donations in smaller increments, I have used any money so far to stave off some debts and a handful of therapy sessions (which I have been unable to attend at the frequency best for my well-being).
My therapy sessions are pricey ($120-135) because traditional CBT/talk therapy has hardly helped me as a traumatized autistic person. My last talk therapist referred me to do EMDR, a type of specialized therapy for trauma recovery. Unfortunately, my (quite limited) health insurance doesn't cover any EMDR therapists, and I should be going every 1 to 2 weeks. Additionally, I am transitioning out my university's psychiatric care--although it is free, the experience has been traumatic itself. Beginning on 11/30/2020, I will have co-pays for my psychiatry appointments. I am still in the process of figuring out what my co-pay is for my new provider, but this is another necessity that I must pay for.
HRT is secondary to all of this, unfortunately. I suffer from a great deal of gender dysphoria & I would ideally like to fund laser hair removal as well as testosterone-blocking medication. I do not yet have an exact plan for how I can get all of this done & at an affordable + sustainable price, but raising money through this GoFundMe will allow me to save money for it (as well as stave off future debts).
My studies are projected to end in Fall of 2021, and I will be graduating with a dual bachelor's degree in psychology & women's studies. After that, I will no longer have financial support from my university (which already isn't enough to cover my medical + living expenses). I hope to become a mental health counselor or music therapist + specialize in neurodivergent (e.g. autistic, ADHD) youth populations. My inspiration to do this comes from my own experiences as an unsupported trans & neurodivergent person, and I am incredibly passionate about this and being a healer.
The less financial stress I have, the easier it will be for me to graduate in good health and prepare myself to have a job + income of my own, which isn't entirely possible in my condition at the moment. I am working on finding some part-time work or resuming student assistant work at my university in the meantime.
$10,000 is enough to cover approximately 74 therapy sessions of mine, which I believe will sustain and support me in this next year and half as I prepare to graduate and transition into the workforce. The more money I have for therapy, the more I will be able to save money for other necessary expenses while doing what's in the best interest of my mental health.
Thank you so much.
