Maryland Hillel - Special Appeal
Tax deductible
Who would have thought my 25th year as a Hillel Director would be my hardest? I am reaching out to ask for your help in recovering from the dramatic flood at Maryland Hillel yesterday, and to ask for your support in tending to our students during this difficult time.
Please, will you do what you can to help, so that collectively our community can see Maryland Hillel through this trying time? If you choose to make your annual donation to this fund, we invite you to make an increased gift in support of restoring our building and our programmatic endeavors.
We have been hard at work serving our students while navigating COVID-19, and then yesterday, Maryland Hillel’s home was severely damaged in a flash flood. The flood would be painful under the best of circumstances, but it is merely excruciating now. Can I please count you in to help cover this burden and our ongoing needs?
Over the coming weeks, you will receive our annual High Holiday appeals. We need both programmatic support like the High Holiday appeal, and assistance with defraying our deductible to be best positioned to create a vibrant Jewish community amid COVID-19 and always.
Perhaps it is my rabbinic training or Mr. Rogers, but I strive to see life through the positive lens, and there is much to celebrate. I am so heartened by:
- The 26 students who appeared, almost magically, in the face of a torrential downpour, to help salvage their Hillel.
- Our board members who behind the scenes organized restoration services, who were on site in minutes.
- My professional team, who I have called upon to work harder and more hours than is just, and who has risen to the challenge without complaint.
- The community of support and love that has enveloped us throughout – but all the more so over the past few hours.
Our tradition teaches us that מים רבים לא יוכלו לכבות את האהבה – “Great waters cannot extinguish the love.” (Song of Songs.) Or, as Mr. Rogers would say – in times of trouble, look to the helpers!
Please, will you be our helper?
Shabbat Shalom and THANK YOU!
