Emergency Aviary for Unreleasable Rescue Pigeons
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Phoenix, and I need your help. My friend Lindsey has been rescuing and rehabbing pigeons for over 17 years. Many of my pet pigeons and all my pigeon health/care/and rescue knowledge came from her, she's an incredible resource with a heart of gold and so much invaluable bird knowledge! For the last four years, she has been battling with the city of Ventura to keep her rescue aviary, but due to reasons beyond her control and for no lack of trying, she's at the end of her rope. Her beautiful aviary will be demolished, and the 40+ unreleasable pigeons inside need to be off her property, or they will be euthanized.
I live four hours away, on a 4.5 acre homestead in the mountains, and I can take these birds and save them from their fate if I can erect an emergency, predator proof aviary in time. I currently have a small aviary fit for six birds, so the new aviary will need to be significantly larger. Lindsey will continue to help with their food and medical costs, but the initial cost to build the aviary is going to be a challenge. Pigeons have specific needs in order to be safe, and I have physical limitations in regards to my building capabilities, so I will need to hire a builder. Lindsey can pay some amount, but we're about 3k short of what it will take in supplies and labor. Anything at all helps! As many of you know, I love pigeons, and recently lost my ESA companion after six years. Being able to give back and save more birds in his honor, not to mention help the wonderful rescue who brought him into my life in the first place, would mean so much to me.
Pigeons are highly social animals who often mate for life. Many of these birds have been married for 17 years, and already his upheaval will be hard for them. Being able to keep the flock together and intact and move them from one space to another without too much fuss or seperation will be beneficial to them. Thank you all so much for thinking of these wonderful, underappreciated, loving birds.
