Emergency Care for Pocket the Dog
Donation protected
We are on our way home! Pocket is acting like nothing ever happened, what a sweet, tough girl she is. She handled the hospitalization well and everyone loved her (no surprise there). Followup care tomorrow will be bloodwork at our local vet. By picking her up early, we were able to save about a thousand dollars or more. The hospital bill was $2,130, poison hotline (required for hospitalization) $85, tomorrow's lab $150+, gas.
36hr update: Hi again, thank you for the continued support, I can't overstate how much this means to us. The vet this morning agreed that we can send Pocket home around noon today to save expenses because the labwork is within the normal range. She will see the vet at home on Tuesday afternoon to have a kidney panel run again ($165), to make sure that everything stays normal. The vet said she is eating and drinking normally (and has been well-behaved, no "funny business" other than separation anxiety). We are so grateful to have received as much support as we have, since otherwise this would have been an impossible and crippling expense. The moral support has been invaluable. There is still time to contribute, and thank you so much for sharing this link.
We look forward to seeing each and everyone of you when Pocket feels better.
24hr update: Hi everyone, and thank you so much for your generosity. Thank you for sharing this, for contributing, and for your words of support. We appreciate being held by the community during this alarming time. I want to share the good news, the vet said this morning that Pocket is doing well, and they are continuing the detoxification and monitoring. The protocol would be to continue two more rounds of blood work to rule out kidney damage, and we'll do that if we can afford to. I'm planning to pick her up midday Monday, 12 hours short of the prescribed treatment, to save costs. The running total thus far for services rendered is $1525, and by Monday morning will exceed $2000, and may go up to $3000. The lab work will add to that number.
Squeeze your furry loved ones a little extra, love, Morgan
... ... ...
Hi, my name is Morgan and my best little dog, Pocket, is in the emergency hospital.
She got into something toxic while I was at work, requiring a midnight visit to Santa Fe for emergency care. They want to hold her for 48 hours with constant care and do an additional blood workup 24 hours later.
Without 48 hr treatment and monitoring, and a bloodwork lab at 72 hrs, we risk kidney failure which typically leads to death.
She is at Mosaic Animal Emergency and Specialty in Santa Fe. They also accept cards over the phone.
Thank you so much for any help you can give. The current estimate of care is a quarter of my yearly income, so this is a big one. With tax they're saying $3,500.
