Emergency Covid Relief Indonesia
#UPDATE#
With the success of the campaign and the continued emergency, we are expanding our scope to all of Indonesia, working with several community lead initiatives. As of Tuesday 27th July, all new donations will be distributed via the national network on the basis of need. Thank you for your support and please continue to share the fundraiser.
Covid19 is spreading uncontrolled in Indonesia, with recorded infections surpassing 54,000 in a single day.
I am an Australian who used to live in Indonesia and, with my friend Didin, I have been raising money to support our friends in the trans community in Yogyakarta who have been affected by Covid19. After some initial success, we want to expand our support to the wider queer community and other vulnerable groups.
Please help us save lives!
We are supporting people who are isolating with Covid19 as well as people who have lost their income due to Covid. Financial support enables people to stay at home, slowing the spread and keeping people safe.
$40 is enough for one person to stay at home for one week. Each person who stays at home reduces the number of infections.
One of the initial recipients thanks donors for assistance during the Covid19 crisis.
We are prioritising high risk groups including:
- LGBT community
- street kids
- sex workers
- insecure workers who have a lot of social contact (gig economy workers, street vendors, market-place workers etc)
We will be transferring small sums directly to recipients' bank accounts along with information on how to stop the spread of Covid19.
About us:
Alex Gotts spent two years living in Yogyakarta, working with two different NGOs and with an LGBT community group. They also have extensive experience volunteering and working with community groups in Australia.
Didin (Ahmad Syaifuddin) is the CEO of Harapan Fian, an organisation that supports vulnerable young people and also the chair of the board of directors of PLUSH, an LGBT support and advocacy group. He was born and raised in Yogyakarta and has been involved in numerous community projects.
About the distribution:
Didin is leading the distribution in Yogyakarta under the auspices of Harapan Fian . He is drawing on pre-existing lists of vulnerable people from his NGO and working with community leaders to identify those with the greatest need.
As this is a crisis situation, we will continue to adapt and respond as new information becomes available.
