Emergency Eviction Fund for BIPOC House
BIPOC household of 3 seeking financial support to cover eviction costs due to COVID-related reasons. After beginning the process of renewing their 1-year lease, the landlord has decided to relocate to their investment property - to escape the Sydney lockdown. Thus evicting them in the process.
This BIPOC house has been a sanctuary for BIPOC in lutruwita, and this eviction is an example of the intersections of white supremacy, colonialism, class, ableism, and gentrification. We are witnessing firsthand, the ease in which the white upper class are able to access stolen lands in these harrowing times.
Unfortunately, most of the house do not have a steady income and are all chronically ill/disabled. This unexpected news adds to their current financial hardship leading them to a complete financial breaking point.
Immediate funds are required for making general repairs and hiring cleaning services for bond release, covering moving costs, and the last month's rent. Any excess funds will be utilised for transitioning to their next homes.
Donations will include covering the following:
Hiring services such as carpet cleaner, fumigation, cleaner, gardener, window cleaner, glazier, etc.
Maintenance/repairer to fix any property damage (no matter how small)
Hiring moving service/covering petrol for moving
This will give them the breathing room to:
Focus on admin tasks regarding the eviction such as closing accounts for electricity, phone, internet, gas, insurance service providers, organise your mail re-direction, etc.
Moving tasks such as packing, donating, and dealing with all personal belongings on the property
This will mean:
• Stable finances for transitioning to their next homes
• Being able to provide the repairs and changes to the standards of the owners
• Allowing more time and energy to focus on personal/professional lives
• Alleviate some of the stress of an unexpected eviction
