DCFM & FairShare Emergency Farmer Fund
Donation protected
The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting and severely impacting communities and institutions across the globe. Locally, we are already seeing the economic impacts and threats to our farmers' and food producers' livelihoods.
Small farms and food producers already operate within tight margins such that a single emergency or disruption to their business can cause severe financial hardship. Farmers who sell directly to consumers at farmers' markets and to institutions like schools and restaurants are facing cancellations and closures that reduce or eliminate their income. The uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 outbreak further impairs farmers’ ability to plan for the future at a time when many are seeding and preparing for the growing season ahead. These financial hardships and uncertainties undermine their mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
The Dane County Farmers' Market and FairShare CSA Coalition are committed to supporting our farmers and food producers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are key areas where you can help. We have established this crowd-funding campaign to assist our member farms and food producers whose income has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Farms will be able to apply funds to essential loan and mortgage payments to ensure they can stay on their land and keep their businesses afloat, as well as support employee wages.
We hope to raise $50,000 to provide emergency aid to 100 total farmers, with the goal of providing ongoing disbursements to farm applicants as soon as sufficient funds are available. Funds will be withdrawn by the Dane County Farmers' Market and issued as checks to our farmer applicants that are experiencing hardship. Unsure how much to donate? Check out our donation tiers below!
$10: Many hands make light work! Your donation of $10 goes far to keep our farmers up and running.
$25: Invest in our small farmers during a critical time of planning, preparing, and seeding!
$50: Support 1 farmer in modifying their production schedule to adjust to the timing of COVID-19
$250: Supplant a portion of a farmer's lost wholesale income due to restaurant closures
$500: Provide the maximum Emergency Fund Award to a farmer to meet their monthly farm loan payment
For all donations equal to or greater than $250, donors will receive a DCFM tote bag and a FairShare tableware towel.
