Emergency fire relief for Zak

Hi, my name is Jonah and I am fundraising to help my friend Zak. On Saturday night, Zak lost everything he owns to a 5 alarm fire that destroyed his apartment building. Luckily his cat Jerome, our friends, and I all made it out safely, but the only stuff he saved were the clothes on his back. Now I’m seeking your support to help him restart his life.

Luckily, Zak and Jerome are staying with friends in the neighborhood for now, but he’ll need to replace everything: all his clothes, his computer and electronics, his books, and his furniture. He’ll need money to secure a new place, which will surely be more expensive than the loft in Chatham Square.

Most things are replaceable (and it would be much simpler if he had renter’s insurance) but there are so many things he will sadly never get back: art, old journals, plants, and family photos. The clothes that were his dad’s. His grandmother’s mirror. The keepsakes he collected from travels around the world - things you can't put a price on.

Zak has put so much energy into building a new home for himself in NYC the past three years, and it feels crazy that it all disappeared so quickly. The loft was so special —a hub for our community of friends and artists in a part of the city where it’s impossible to find that amount of space unless you’re a billionaire.

Zak is trying to stay positive, but as you can imagine, it feels completely overwhelming to think about what the next few months will be like. I hope you can help me by sharing or donating. Zak be using part of the funds to help support his roommate Delia, who lost all her music and DJ gear.
