Emergency Fund for Palestinian University Students

Help us fund Palestinian students in their final semester before graduation. (attending universities in the West Bank and Jerusalem)
Deadline: August 20, 2020 (to meet the Fall semester deadline, any donations after this date will be applied to the spring semester)
Currently, about 87,000 of Palestinian university students in the West Bank and Gaza are left without funds for tuition due to current political events and the global pandemic.
Tuition for one semester costs between $800-$4,500 depending on the major.
Details:
For about three months and counting there has been a freeze on all salaries in the public sector, affecting up to 160,000 employees, mainly due to the proposed illegal annexation. During which Israel has been withholding Palestinian export and import taxes from the Palestinian government. Additionally the private sector is battling with the economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis. Ongoing mandatory lockdowns and closures since March have left those in the private sector like business owners, restaurant workers, taxi drivers, barbers, etc also without income. There has been no government aid to them thus far. As a result, these factors have created a terrible domino effect leaving many families struggling to make ends meet while having to make some big sacrifices. Far too often this sacrifice is a student‘s tuition fee that cannot be sustained anymore. With donations to this fund we want to take some pressure off the affected students, pay their tuition, and give them a much needed constant in these troubling times.
Who we are:
We are a grassroots network of colleagues and friends volunteering our time and money for this cause. Last month our fundraiser Ahmad was able to raise enough money to fund tuition for 7 university students for the summer semester. He raised most of the funds locally in Palestine. After the word got out about how many students need help, friends from the US and Europe reached out to donate as well. So we made it possible to donate online through this platform. All funds raised will be transferred to Palestine then directly to the university to pay the tuition fees. There isn't any middle entity taking administrative fees. We are working with friends on the ground in Palestine as well as the universities to select the students that are the most in need.
