He had to conduct these tests under an alias name in order to protect his privacy. Here in Iraq, the only way to access HIV medication is through government centers, which would result in an investigation and notifying his family—a situation that puts his life at severe risk due to the stigma and newly discriminatory laws criminalizing homosexuality.

Living as a gay person in Iraq has become unbearably dangerous. The recent legislation not only targets LGBTQ+ individuals but also bans any form of advocacy or support from their community.. Every day, he lives in fear of being discovered and punished simply for who he is.

- Medical Costs: The cost of HIV medication is approximately $500.00 USD for a one-month supply, which he cannot afford on his own. Additionally, he needs to undergo further HIV tests and screenings, which are only possible outside of Iraq due to safety concerns.

- Travel Expenses: He needs to travel abroad to safely access medical care without fear of arrest or persecution. However, he still needs to secure funds for the medication and screenings once he is there.
