Dear friends,

My heart is broken to watch the ongoing violence and suffering in Gaza in Palestine.

In Rafah in Southern Gaza over one million people in make-shift tents are objected to further bombardment and a further immanent military offensive. In Northern Gaza, people live amongst the ruins of bombed houses. 1 in 4 Palestinians in Gaza are facing famine, with particular high risk of starvation in the North.

Like many people, we have donated to well-known aid organisations, hoping to help as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza unfolded. Yet it has become clear over the recent months that while trucks with international aid are waiting at the Rafah crossing, to this day only insufficient numbers of aid trucks are allowed to cross the border into Gaza. This is well documented by UNICEF and the UN, organisations which have repeatedly called for more aid to be let in. According the UN, especially with Northern Gaza It is impossible for aid organisations to get through.

Due to this situation and the now acute risk of starvation of many people, I have decided to support this family in Gaza who urgently needs help to survive, extending in this fundraiser.

The emergency situation in Gaza

Over 30.000 people in Gaza are dead, 70.000 more are injured and scarred for life, many are under the rubble. 1.7 million people are displaced, sheltering outside in tents during winter. All hospitals have stopped functioning. Two million people are at risk of starvation, death by ongoing bombing or injury with diminishing medical aid. Outbreaks of hepatitis, anaemia and other illnesses stemming from 3 months of malnourishment and contaminated water pose further risk. The mental health trauma of a whole generation of children and youth who have endured repeated violent assaults can’t be described.

Emergency Aid for the Alladaa Family

With your help, I am hoping to support my friend Salama and his 13 family members who are currently displaced in a damaged, insecure building in the North. Salama is a 22-year old student in Media & Visual Communication from Gaza City, whom I met in spring 2023. When we messaged on the 1st of October 2023, he was rehearsing for his graduation ceremony. After years of struggle and hard work he was happy to have accomplished finishing his degree course, and he had invited his parents to the celebrations. He was then exposed to bombings on his graduation day. Ten days later, the family evacuated. A month later, their house was completely destroyed by bombs. Three months later, they have been fleeing from place to place, with a sick family member hardly being able to move. They can only eat once per day due to lack of food and they have been injured. Sadly, Salama's mother passed away last week on the 27th February, following severe illness and being unable to access adequate medical treatment.

Cadair Idris Climb - Help save lives

We have therefore organised this fundraiser, to plead for donations for Salama’s family, including several children.

In order to encourage donations and to show our commitment we are going to take up a challenge, and hike up one of the highest peaks in Wales in the UK in early May 2024. We will climb ‘Cadair Idris’ (‘Penygader’) in Snowdonia in May as the winter weather makes mountain hiking more dangerous for unexperienced climbers. But please donate now and we will forward your donations immediately, as there is imminent need and risk, right now. We have covered all expenses for this climb, all of your donations will go in full to Salama’s family. Your donation will help to save lives.

How your donations will be used

The money will be used to buy food, water, medicine and basic necessities for Salama’s family. Buying a tent that enables higher chances of survival costs about 400 Pounds. Food is at very high prices. Food and water for a family of 14 for a day now costs about 112 Pounds (app 140 Dollars, 130 Euros).

The money will then be spend as follows

Food, water, medicine and basic necessities for up to 12 weeks for 14 people: 9200 Pounds

2 tents: 800 Pounds

Your donations so far have been used to buy food and water for the family and medicine for Salama's mum.

If we see an end to war, which we all hope for, any remaining funds will be used to allow the family to rebuild a shelter. The family has lost everything. There is nothing but rubble and destruction left at this point.

The money will be send directly to Salama via a safe account. Communication, electricity, and the internet are often down in Gaza, but I will forward any updates from Salama as much as possible.
