Emergency Funds for Laid off AAAJ-LA Staff
Donation protected
Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles has tragically laid off 19 workers -- 20% of staff -- just weeks before the holiday season. Most received only a day's notice to clear out their offices. Many of the impacted workers live paycheck to paycheck due to high costs of living. They cover the rent and medical expenses for family members with serious medical conditions. They have little-to-no immediate job prospects because fewer employers hire during this season.
And some will receive as little as one week's worth of wages for severance, depending on their length of employment under management's current proposal.
Please help us meet our goal of raising $20,000 by October 25, 2019 for emergency funds for rent, medical expenses and other necessities for laid off staff. Many worked tirelessly under meager to modest salaries to serve Asian American communities, and now desperately need your help.
Information about the organizer and how the funds will be disbursed:
Hello my name is Yanin Senachai. I started this GoFundMe campaign to raise emergency funds for 19 staff impacted by mass layoffs at Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA on October 7, 2019.
The impacted staff (E. Flores, H Foong, L. Furumoto, S. Gershoff, A. Herrera, B. Kim, G. Lamug, A. Ng , Q. Pham, L. Reyes, R Ronquillo, F. Santoso, K. Silva , M. Suzuki., V. Tlahuel, J. Trang, , A. Vu., and B. Yates) will decide by consensus how the funds will be disbursed amongst themselves.
All of the funds from the campaign will be withdrawn and deposited into the personal account of Gofundme beneficiary J. Trang. Starting Oct. 25, 2019 or when the funds are made available, J. Trang will begin to disburse the funds by personal check or non-fee money transfer service, e.g., Venmo, to the other impacted members, in amounts agreed to by the members.
