Emergency: Help Amir & His Family Evacuate Gaza
Donation protected
Dear friends,
My name is Sara and this heartfelt fundraiser is for my friend Amir Al-Gharabawi. I met Amir online in October and since then we check in every day, communications permitting. He has been navigating the current dire conditions and has fled bombardment several times within Gaza, where there is no safe place to go. Despite this, he and his friends have been performing parkour for kids every day that they can to bring moments of joy and laughter and hope. Amir shared the following words on a video he posted to Instagram on December 4th (note: he has since been displaced again).
“Last week in brief, I was displaced 4 times. From the industrial zone - Khan Yunis, to Deir al Balah, to Hamad Town – Khan Yunis. Now I’m in Rafah. Our house was bombed. It contains more than 70 people. The place we fled to in Hamad Town was bombed. Now we are in Rafah…We can see the Egyptian border from the place where we were displaced in Rafah. This place…where more than 40,000 people live…does not have toilets, potable water, food supplies or electricity. There are no means of life available there. The place is more difficult than the video clips. I hope that it will be the last migration of the Gazan people. I hope the war will end.”
Choosing to leave is a painful decision to make, but the situation has become untenable. With great hope, I know we are a compassionate collective able to have great impacts. I have started this GoFundMe campaign to raise $8,000 to help Amir get into Egypt to find safety through the Rafah crossing. Crossing the border requires a $7,000 fee per person. Any additional funds received will go to giving Amir a moment to breathe and food and housing abroad, where he will need to continue efforts to evacuate his family members.
The proceeds of this fundraiser will go to an account managed by me and sent to Amir via Western Union. This means of getting funds to him has already worked for a small donation I sent this month. We are both private individuals with no connection to any organizations. To learn more about Amir, you can visit his Instagram page here . My Instagram page is here .
We are grateful for your contribution and reshare.
Thank you!
