Emergency Help Needed for Local Bayside Lad
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cory Van Huele, and I am a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and St. Francis Prep. I turned 18 on June 4th. A few days later my dad had an emergency leg amputation, as a result of ongoing health conditions. The combination of these events left me without financial assistance, and at risk of losing my childhood home. I have no other option except to ask my community for help.
I showed up on the doorstep of my Bayside neighbor, Debra Corchia a few days after my dad went into the hospital. I brought a pile of unpaid bills, an empty bank account, and a parent who needed intense medical care. I am lucky to have such a neighbor.
I was accepted to St. John's University. I had no idea there were zero provisions made for me. My mom left when I was a toddler, and there are no other family members who are able to help me, or take me in.
Unfortunately, turning 18 makes me ineligible for many assistance programs. Although I have a job, it is minimum wage and won't be enough to carry the bills and tuition for college.
Donations will be used for my tuition at St. John's. The balance will pay down outstanding house bills so I can stay in the house until it is sold.
Some of my neighbors will help guide me with the funds collected and the distribution of the funds.
