Emergency Homeless Hygeine Kits

 "First we form our communities and then they form us."

Some friends and I are in  process of making and distributing  essential hygiene kits to LA's unsheltered population.  As there is an ongoing need for thousands of these kits...this is just the beginning. 

A bit about the kits.  While the kits are simple, a lot of thought has gone into them. Starting with the understanding what essential human  hygiene needs are and then providing  items to take care of these needs.

That's one side of it. The other is understanding that societal problems cannot be solved by causing environmental damage while attempting to solve them.

The goal is for the kits to be 100% compostable. We are not there yet.

The kit contents come in a rugged bag. The thinking is, if you have only a few things a small durable bag is an especially good thing to have.

Along with the contents. There is a 12 page brochure with instructions, greetings, a screed against consumerism, thoughts about wellness, thoughts about waste, aphorisms and useful resources. It's not quite a manifesto...getting there. 

Its time we all rolled up our proverbial sleeves and directly engaged with the humanitarian crises that is around us with a generous heart.
