Emergency Hysterectomy Recovery Costs
We are hoping to raise funds for our community member Honey Simone, who is undergoing an emergency Hysterectomy in the coming weeks following a pre-cancer scare she experienced this past winter. After seeing precancerous cells in previous Pap smears, the issue developed rapidly and her doctors found cancerous cells on her cervix, forcing her to move at an urgent pace to deal with this issue. At this time, Honey was uninsured, and extremely scared, especially because she has a history of cervical cancer in her family. Over the next few months she underwent a handful of procedures to deal with the cancer before it metastasized, and unfortunately her doctors came to the conclusion that she needed to have an emergency hysterectomy. She was able to apply for emergency Medicade through the state of North Carolina, and is in the process of scheduling the hysterectomy now. Honey’s doctors have told her that recovery time for this procedure is between 4-8 weeks, and that she will be unable to work for at least 4 weeks, possibly longer depending on how her body responds to the surgery.
We are raising funds to help Honey pay her rent, utilities, and expenses during her recovery time, and with a cushion extending past that in case there are any complications with the surgery. We are hoping to raise $3,500 to cover these costs, and have listed them in more detail below.
3 months rent @ $727/month - $2,181
Utilities $250/month - $750
groceries -$300
recovery supplies (pads, meds, ice packs, heating pads) - $250
Honey is an integral part of the creative and activist community in Western North Carolina. Her business Different Wrld is a multi-use creative hub centered around the liberation of Queer Trans BIPOC in the south. Different Wrld provides space for folks of marginalized experience to exist safely, have access to creative resources, and community. If you have been to an event at Different Wrld, you know how much it provides to the community in Asheville and beyond. Honey needs community support now, so that she can continue the important work she does at Different Wrld. We would appreciate so greatly if you were able to donate funds to Honey’s recovery, and share this fundraiser with your community. Thank you!
