Emergency Legal and Housing Funds

On Wednesday, October 21st, 2020, our father was admitted to the palliative care unit at Etobicoke General. He was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma back in December of 2019. We expect him to pass in the coming days. His death leaves us, his three children (23, 17, & 17), in a precarious position.
Our parents were embroiled in bitter divorce proceedings and have lived apart for the last 5 years. My dad moved out to live with his brother, who acted as his caretaker once he fell ill. Our uncle ceased communication with us & our mother's primary concern has been the state of our father's will, not our emotional health. We anticipate a bitter legal fight between them over our father's will/any assets he had.
One thing that this whole experience has made clear is that this environment is incredibly unhealthy and unsupportive. We aren't the priority in the immediacy of our father's passing - the property is. We don't want anything other than to be free to relocate in pursuance of our education. In order to ensure this, we want to seek out our own independent legal counsel and acquire our own safe space.
Funds will be used to:
- Retain a lawyer to represent us in estate proceedings
- Cover first and last month's rent deposit on a safe place, separate from family
- Additional living costs (for the 2 youth under 18)
