Emergency Liver Transplant patient

Hi, my name is Kerri, and I am fundraising for my beautiful 50 year old sister in law, Kristy. Kristy was admitted into the hospital on 10/9/22 after feeling extremely weak and developing jaundice. My brother, Al, travels for work and came home to spend time with his wife and family that weekend. He insisted on taking Kristy to the emergency room. Kristy had assumed she was merely battling a minor illness, and never could have imagined what the doctors had found out. Kristy’s Liver was not functioning and her kidneys were failing. Many tests were performed, and the doctors found that the only option for survival was an immediate Liver transplant. Understandably, this left my brother and Kristy in complete shock! Kristy has always lived a very health conscious life: gluten free, clean eating, and always maintained her physical fitness. The shock led to many questions and loads of additional medical testing. Kristy’s body has been attacking itself and destroying her liver. There is no clear reason as to why. Kristy was put on the liver transplant list and, thankfully, had an immediate match. On 10/23/22 Kristy received a new liver and is now on a very long road to recovery. My brother has work contracts out of state and would be unable to travel during this lengthy recovery process. With this go fund me, I am hoping to ease their financial burdens, so that my brother may fully focus on Kristy and her journey to recovery. There will be many follow up appointments once she is out of the hospital. She will need medications for the rest of her life and there will be other unexpected medical expenses.
