Emergency Plumbing Situation!
Donation protected
Hello community. My husband Barron, a firefighter in Georgia, and I just bought our first house. This was supposed to be an exciting time, but within the two weeks we have lived in the home, we found out that the seller hid massive problems from us regarding the plumbing, and unfortunately our inspector did not discover any of these issues, putting us in an emergency plumbing situation.
Yesterday the tubs and toilets filled with sewage. The plumber was unable to unclog our main, so a camera was brought in. The camera showed a blockage 80 feet from the house, about 4 feet from the city side of the line. We were given a quote of $9890.00 to fix the sewage line. This is a minimum charge. There is also a leak somewhere in the plumbing in the house involving our incoming water line. We do not know the cost to fix this leak, though it will likely involve digging up the concrete slab to access the pipes, which typically comes with a hefty price tag. We are currently without showers, toilets, or any means of hygiene in the house. We are still living in the house and showering at a gym 15 minutes away. Loans are difficult to come by due to COVID-19, especially after just closing on the house. Georgia is a "buyer beware" state, meaning that the seller can claim no knowledge of leaks or blockages. I am out of work due to COVID-19. Fortunately Barron still has his job, but the original quote is 1/4 of his annual income.
In addition to these plumbing issues, we have already had the water heater re-plumbed, the toilets fixed, mold under the flooring and in cabinets - so all the carpet and several cabinet baseboards had to be removed and extensively cleaned, siding damage that we are currently trying to replace, and a tree that must be removed that is estimated to be $2,500. Also, Barron enrolled in paramedic school starting in September, which is $6000.
We have never asked for help before, and like to be able to take care of things ourselves. But we now find ourselves in a situation that requires immediate assistance. We really need your help alleviating even a small portion of these costs. Even a dollar helps. Thank you so much for reading about our situation. We would be happy to answer further questions, should you have them.
