Emergency relief fund to rebuild Ecolojah
Donation protected
Ecolojah is a community based school in Coutonou, Benin run by Mere and Pere Jah. Their mission has been to serve the local community youth by supporting the next generation of conscious Africans.
They achieve this by equipping them with practical and technical skills in sustainable agro-ecological methods, providing an education aligned with the national curriculum in addition to a Pan Africanist curriculum.
On Wednesday 24th April a local fire caused the complete devestation of their school buildings and left the site practically unusable. Fortunately nobody was injured in the blaze, but it left the whole family Jah shocked and desperate to rebuild their school which they have been running for over 20 years.
Early images of the fire damage.
Holding classes just after the fire.
It is estimated that to restore the damage and rebuild the school will cost around 30,000 euros. Right now Mere Jah has said they currently have rented tarpaulins for 2 months for the remainder of the school year to minimise the disruption to the children's education.
They need to rebuild Ecolojah before September 2019 opening of the next school year.
The funds need to be raised as soon as possible in order to realise this objective and for their ongoing charity work to continue.
Ecolojah does not receive government funding and relies solely on donations and private fundraising activities.
I met Mere and Pere Jah and their extended family who work at the school in 2016 when we were travelling on holiday in Benin. We immediately connected on a deep level and have been in close connection ever since.
Mere Jah is a dear friend and the family Ecolojah have been instrumental in providing wholesome education with ecological sustainability, integrity and vision at it's heart, equipping the younger generation with pride of their African heritage and respect for the land they inhabit.
We ask for your solidarity in supporting this call to help rebuild Ecolojah and to keep their vision for the African youth alive.
Any donation no matter how small is deeply appreciated.
One love and deep gratitude for your support.
