Emergency Support for DC-based Capoeira Teacher
Donation protected
Jasper has been creating safe, supportive spaces for wome, femmes, queer and trans folks in the DC area to train capoeira without fear of violence. He teaches three capoeira Angola classes each week. Classes are free for Black, brown and indigenous folks and sliding scale for everyone else. During the warmer months he brings instruments and organizes weekly outdoor rodas in Malcolm X Park. In addition he has coordinated mutual aid and emergency requests from muliple members of the DMV capoeira community. Now he needs our support to recover from an emergency!
Back in January I got the below text from Jasper: "I recently woke to find that my catalytic converter was stolen from my car. It’s a vital part on any car, and theybhave been targeted for the precious metals they contain. MPD did not show up, so that I could provide the necessary report to my insurance company. Fitting, I guess, since my insurance company won’t cover the repair costs. Replacing the part has proven to be an almost insurmountable obstacle, because they are so expensive to replace and repair. Without it, my car is completely totaled: inoperable, no resale value, in danger of fines when my tags expire.
Sadly my DCPS teacher salary isn’t enough to cover the expense. "
