Emergency Support for the LGBTIQ+ Community In Uganda.

Dear Friends, dear World,

As the LGBTIQ+ community continue to face the heavy persecution and very terrible effects of the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 (AHA23), We continue to call upon your help, support and solidarity, with the LGBTIQ+ community in Uganda as they face the extreme inhumane law. This law includes provisions for the death penalty in cases of "aggravated homosexuality," as well as harsh punishments for anyone who provides assistance to individuals in the gay community. This means that legal aid, emergency shelter, food, and medication are all subject to criminal penalties, with potential imprisonment of up to 20 years and heavy fines.

The impact of this law is devastating, especially in a country still grappling with the aftermath of the AIDS epidemic and Covid-19. Access to medication, safer sex counselling, and education is now at risk, putting countless lives in danger. Even the distribution of condoms is viewed as evidence of "recruitment" or "promotion" in an unprecedented and absurd declaration.

Despite the immense challenges and risks, Let's Walk Uganda has taken a courageous step to challenge the Anti-Homosexuality Act in the Constitutional Court of Uganda, along with other petitioners. We are standing by, awaiting the court's decision amid an alarming increase in cases of persecution. The rates of Homelessness have hit a record high, starvation and food security has become a worrying concern, Un warranted arrest, blackmail and extortion, life threatening attacks on activist, Forced Anal Examination among so many abuses have increased.

Support from this GoFundMe campaign has so far been so impactful on the lives of so many LGBTIQ people in Uganda. Through this campaign and other support from well-wishers, we have offered emergency relief support, like emergency relocation of persecuted members, provided food to community members who had nothing to eat, payed medical bills for community members, among other services.

More support is still needed to address the worsened situation of the community members. Your support will help provide vital assistance to those facing persecution, including food, shelter, medical bills, among other emergencies.
