EMERGENCY SUPPORT FOR TRANS WOC - STARGIRL
Donation protected
Stargirl, is a trans woman with roots in Mexico, she is currently homeless, suffering horrific injuries including a broken disk in her spine due to a recent transphobic hate crime, who is also survivor of a very recent suicide attempt. She is also an amazing singer and rapper, and her story, her voice needs to be heard !
(TW) On Friday evening I was at the 2nd ave subway stop on the L Train line when I saw Stargirl . She was on the floor of the subway in immense emotional & physical pain . Everyone was standing watching her , a few people hovering over concerned , I saw the station guard nervously hovering . Suddenly she began to crawl towards the track and she proceeded to try to get onto the tracks . So I ran to her & held her , and whispered , that I saw her pain & love & needed her . Two men at that time came and physically pulled her of the edge and I sat with her on the floor .
I continued to talk with her & hold her & she explained to me that she is a Trans Woman , is homeless and a few days prior she was brutally bashed by 10 boys & 1 man who also stole everything from her & threatened her , that if she went to the police or came back to the shelter that they would kill her . She continued to explain she went to Mount Sinai Beth Israel for those injuries and then went back the day I met her begging them to keep her in the psyche ward because she was suicidal but they did not listen to her . Which is how she ended up on the tracks of the L train .
I took her upstairs and someone called the paramedics , they arrived & made her stand up & walk even though I told them she had a broken disc in her spine.
We got to the hospital , where all the nurses and doctors @mountsinai_bethisrael called her Sir , they talked down to her , didn’t listen to her when she spoke to them . I told them she was a woman & they needed to start using the right pronouns and finally they asked her what she would like to be called . They eventually took her to the psyche ward and I found out from a nurse she had been in 3 times that day begging them to keep her there , because she was suicidal .
I am outraged, sad & disgusted by how the hate of this world can drive us into the kind of hopelessness that makes us want to jump in front of a train, that the combination of the violence we receive directly & indirectly can lead to this . I’ve been there, I have felt that hopelessness before, even though I have never experienced even an inkling of what Stargirl’ experience is as a trans woman of colour who is also homeless. I saw her & her pain , and it took me back to moments when I felt that hopeless and I remembered what I needed in those moments . I wouldn’t have survived any of the dark times in my life without community , without care , without resources , mobility & prayer .
So I’m asking all of you my community & her community to help . I am waiting for her to call me today , so I can give her a list of resources of organisations , community centres , collectives, support groups etc , where she can have her immediate needs met . Which is safe housing, clothing , therapy, food etc .
I want to begin by collecting $600 dollars for her to have some money of her own , so she can buy a phone , get some clothes & if she can stay with her cousin in Miami , to buy a flight to Miami to be with her family . I don’t have the capacity right now to fundraise & assist her by myself , so please lmk if you can help in anyway & send me resources , contact numbers to organisations that will help etc .
Please spread the word , support and donate.
Thank you
