Emergency Support Rainier Farmer Market
Donation protected
Kevin Nguyen is looking for community support at his Rainier Farmers Market, It was tragically targeted and destroyed by multiple fires this past week. He has been running thefresh produce and food stand off Rainier and 23rd for 5 years.
This is a devastating blow to the community, as his location serves as a gateway between the Central Area and Southend; where many divers communities relied on to get cultural, quality ,and affordable produce.
Many were meet with shock as they came to the location that has been dependably operating every single day, except Christmas, for the last 5 years. The employees are extended family and no longer have a means of supporting their selves and families.
During the tragic events Kevin called on the community organization, Central Area Collaborative, for support. He decided to liquidate his entire inventory for cents to the dollar to folks in the community. The organization, Nurturing Roots, was able to donate it across King County where many BIPOC folks were pushed to such as Central area , Southend , and south king County.
To be able to keep Kevin in the community will keep out so many negative effects happing such as displacement of workers and families, gentrification, and lost of cultural healthy food.
We are fundraising to help support staff and to raise capital to open the store again. Kevin is committed to delivering fresh healthy and culturally appropriate foods to the community. He needs some help to get back on his feet.
