Emergency Water for Mele
Donation protected
Hi this is Jan and Neil as many know we have been involved with Mele Village in Vanuatu for awhile now. We have just returned from another visit and were saddened to see that after the December earthquake and January Cyclones Mele village of approximately 4,000 people is still without any permanent water supply. The main system that was in place was destroyed by landslip. The Rotary Club has been great and installed a backup system, which involves a sinking of a bore tank and solar panels, to one side of the village, installing 3 taps for the people to access with buckets.
Our aim is to raise funds to extend that temporary supply to the rest of the village.
Previously we supplied our friend Paul with a small water pump which has been amazing in supplying bore water for the basics like outdoor shower and laundry to his immediate neighbourhood in Mele Village. The immediate joy this brought to the children was incredible.
The new Vanuatu Government will eventually restore the permanent water supply system. The time frame is unknown with the amount of damage to Port Vila and major infrastructure.
We are passionate that these amazing resilient people should have access to good clean water. This system will be in place for all future emergencies as a back up. It is a filtered system and suitable for drinking.
We hope your generosity will help expedite the process, total funds needed are $25,000
With greatest thanks
Jan and Neil
