Emerson the Brave home care fundraising
Donation protected
Emerson is in need of home care following her most recent round of treatments to help her beat cancer. The family has been through a lot helping Emerson on her battle, now it's our time to help. The home care Emerson now requires (food, bathroom, appointments, meds PT/OT exercises and transportation) has become very taxing on the family, and they are working to find a person(s) to help carry the load. While many of us do not have the skills or ability to physically help care for Emerson, this is a great opportunity to help monetarily to cover what insurance will not. If you have the ability, please consider helping the family provide the best care possible for Emerson. Thanks!!!
For those of you who don't know Emersons story:
In June of 2018, just days after graduating from kindergarten, six-year-old Emerson was diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG), a type of brain cancer. Emerson underwent two brain surgeries during eleven days in the local children's hospital. Then, following the only standard form of treatment for this cancer, she went through 30 treatments of radiation and chemo. There is no cure for DMG, and this treatment was only intended to temporarily extend life, if at all. It was decided that pursuing a clinical trial at the end of radiation was the next step in helping Emerson.
However, there are minimal clinical trials available to a patient with DIPG/DMG. Thankfully, Emerson qualified for a clinical trial of ONC-201, out of Mott Children's Hospital. Drugs do not work the same across the patient population. We are lucky that the drug has shrunk Emerson's tumor, so that only 12% of it remains, and had kept it small for over a year and a half!
Emerson and her family are very fortunate that Emerson is beating the life expectancy of DMG/DIPG. In reality though, this would not be possible for Emerson, or others like her, without funding and research supported through foundations such as Chad Tough Defeat DIPG Foundation.
In May of 2023, doctors found a new tumor. Since then Emerson has had brain surgeries, countless chemo treatments, immunotherapy and radiation appointments. Certainly more treatments than any 6th grader should have to go through. Emerson just wants to get some sense of normalcy back in her life and every penny will help.
