Emily's Breast Cancer Post-Op Recovery Period

Hi Peeps! Here's the dealio...I'm doing some fundraising for my amazing friend Emily. Emily is a widowed mama of three great kids and just recently found out she has breast cancer. She will be having a double mastectomy on April 24th. I want to raise enough money to help support her and her three kids while she recovers for approximately 4-6 weeks.

Em was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ right after New Years Day. This was after she discovered a lump and went in for testing. Turns out the lump was benign but the DCIS breast cancer is spread throughout several areas in the left breast. After meeting with 2 surgeons it was decided that a full mastectomy of the left breast was the best option of treatment. An MRI of both breasts was then done as a standard precaution. The MRI showed a mass in the right breast right on top of a lymph node. So it was back to the biopsy table.

Final result- the right lymph node is benign (great news) but the mass is cancer. Em will now be undergoing a mastectomy of both breasts later this month. She will have a brief hospital stay and then a four to six week recovery. Further testing will be done at time of surgery on the left side lymph nodes and if they come back benign (fingers crossed) then Em will be cancer free and officially a survivor.

Em has a great full time job which she loves and she has been working throughout this entire journey. She is planning to return full time after recovery once the doctor clears her to return. Em has had to use the majority of her PTO to cover her time missed for appointments, testing and meeting with her doctors and surgeons. She has also been fighting through fatigue and the general feeling of unwellness that comes with a cancer battle. Unfortunately, she does not have enough paid time off to cover her 4-6 week recovery time after surgery. She will miss at least 2 pay periods and will need help paying her household bills and buying food for her family. Any leftover funds will go towards the portion of medical costs not covered by insurance.
