Emily & Georgie's Skydive for The Washing Machine Project

On the 14th September, Emily & Georgina will be diving out of a plane, at 12500ft, to support The Washing Machine Project and raise money for a much needed cause, that so many don't know about.
The Washing Machine Project is a grassroots social enterprise based in the UK, aiming to alleviate the burden of handwashing clothes and empower women by providing remote, low income and displaced communities with an accessible, off-grid washing solution - The Divya Washing Machine.
Handwashing clothes causes back and joint pain and skin irritation. Using the Divya washing machine allows users to improve their general health and well being. The primary washers in the family are women and girls, the time saving offered could go towards earning a livelihood or education. This is key to promoting gender equality.
The Divya saves up to 50% of water per wash cycle compared to hand washing clothes. The water saved can be used for other purposes such as cooking and sanitation
The Washing Machine Project has conducted ethnographic research in 13 countries and interviewed more than 3,000 families in Uganda, Kenya, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Cameroon, Jamaica, Nepal, India and the Philippines to gain insight into their clothes washing tendencies. As well as successful pilots, The Washing Machine Project has now distributed Divya washing machines to families and communities in India, Iraq, Lebanon, United States, Mexico and Uganda - impacting almost 30,000 people.
We feel like we have a responsibility to do something and help these families save time and resource, by providing them the equipment they need to do an everyday task, that we take fore granted.
