On Friday, October 27th, around 2:30PM, Emily was a passenger involved in a three car accident in which her boyfriend, Chris, was driving. He was making a legal left hand turn in a four-way intersection when a driver in an SUV ran their stop sign and ran directly into the passenger side of Chris and Emily's car. They were hit so hard that they were forced into another car that was waiting for their turn.

Bystanders called 911, and thankfully, the ambulance made it to the accident in under two minutes where they then determined that Emily's life was in immediate danger and they rushed her to St. Mary's hospital in Grand Junction. Emily underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a subdural hematoma. Thanks to the bystanders making the call, EMS arriving so quickly, and an amazing surgery team at St. Mary's, Emily survived the surgery. She remained in the ICU for close to a week until she was moved to the neuro/trauma/stroke floor where she stayed for five more days. She is now on the rehabilitation floor where she is engaging in physical and cognitive therapy which could last months. In order to relieve pressure on her brain due to swelling caused by the accident, Emily had her left skull flap removed, and it will require another surgery to put it back in one-three months.

We are awaiting the police investigation to conclude in order get all of the details on the person who caused the accident, but what we know is that he does not have insurance. While Emily does have some insurances, there is no way it will be able to cover the medical bills inevitably coming her way. In addition to the medical bills, she will have to retake her college classes from this semester and will not be able to work for the foreseeable future. Any amount helps, and if you cannot donate at this time, please share.

We know Emily has touched so many peoples' lives, and so we encourage you donate and share. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive over this long journey.

We will also be setting up an account at Alpine Bank for people to make donations there with no service fees. Stay tuned.
