Emily möchte gerne essen lernen

Hallo ihr Lieben.

Wir sind Conny und Michael, Emilys stolze Eltern.

Emily ist ein ehemaliges Extremfrühchen, geboren in der 23+4 Schwangerschaftswoche und heute schon 5 Jahre alt. Sie ist ein nonverbales, fröhliches bis freches, zuckersüsses, rollstuhlfahrendes Mädchen, dass uns jeden Tag das Herz erwärmt.

Emily hat die ersten 9 Monate ihres Lebens in Krankenhäusern verbracht, davon die meiste Zeit auf Intensivstationen.

Durch die Frühgeburt hatte sie schwere Hirnblutungen und es gab viele weitere Komplikationen. So hat sie in dieser Zeit mehrere Operationen und schwierige Situationen gemeistert. Es stand einige Male Spitz auf Knopf, aber unsere kleine Maus hat viel Lebenswillen bewiesen.

Auch in den Folgejahren war das Krankenhaus oft unser zweites Zuhause. Leider haben diese Zeiten auch ihre Spuren hinterlassen. Eine davon ist die Sondenabhängigkeit unserer Tochter. Sie hat aufgrund der vielen traumatischen Erlebnisse nie die Möglichkeit bekommen Essen zu lernen oder zu genießen.

Es gibt in Deutschland allerdings ein Institut, das sich darauf spezialisiert hat, Kindern die mit Sonde ernährt werden das Essen nah- und beizubringen. Dieses Institut hat eine außerordentlich hohe Erfolgsquote bei der Sondenentwöhnung, ist aber leider nicht Teil des deutschen Krankenversicherungssystems. Man muss es selber zahlen.

Um Emily die Möglichkeit zu geben in dieser Einrichtung das Essen zu lernen und nicht mehr auf eine Ernährungssonde angewiesen zu sein, brauchen wir die Hilfe von Freunden, der Familie und euch lieben Spendern. Jeder Euro hilft uns diesem Ziel näher zu kommen.

Hello Everyone,

We are Conny and Michael, Emily Hope’s proud parents.

Emily was born extremely prematurely between the 23rd and 24th week of pregnancy. Miraculously, she is 5 years old today.

She is a happy (and sometimes cheeky) little girl that warms our hearts every day. She is also non-verbal and wheelchair-bound.

Emily spent the first 9 months of her life in hospital, most of that time in intensive care. Due to her premature birth, she suffered severe cerebral hemorrhage and complex health complications. Over the first year of her life she withstood multiple operations, interventions and crises. Her life hung by a single thread a number of times, but she always defied the odds with her sunny disposition and strong will to live.

In subsequent years, hospital remained a constant, becoming our second home. Unfortunately, as a result of repeated and ongoing trauma she has developed a condition called ‚tube dependency‘.

Her dependence on feeding tubes has meant that she has never had the opportunity to develop the physical and mental capability to eat and therefore to enjoy food. 

However, there is an institute in Germany that specialises in teaching children, who are fed by tube, how to eat. This institute has an extraordinarily high success rate, but is not covered by the German health insurance system. Treatment at the institute has to be funded privately.

We urgently need the help of friends, family, and philanthropists near and far, to give Emily the gift of learning to eat at this facility so that she will no longer be dependent on a feeding tube. Please help if you can. Every single pound will help us get closer to achieving this life-enhancing goal for our courageous Emily Hope.
