On Friday, November 6, Emily was injured in a serious car accident near Hutchinson, Kansas. She was airlifted to a hospital in Wichita, where she is being treated for a head injury, hole in her lung, fractured collar bone, and fractured vertebrae. She is having significant memory issues and pain. We hope that in a couple of days she will be able to move to a rehabilitation center where she will receive intensive physical therapy.
Due to the accident, Emily and Will have lost their primary family vehicle including the car seats for their daughters. Emily will likely be unable to work for several weeks, and will suffer the loss of income as a result. The medical expenses are unknown at this moment, but are likely to be high considering her time in the hospital and soon in the rehabilitation facility. A Little Bit About Emily:
Emily met her husband, Will, while they were attending college at Fort Hays University. He was studying music to play cello professionally, and she was studying to become a professional opera singer. The day after meeting, Will asked if she would go to church with him and meet his parents--she said yes and the rest is history. They have been together for 16 years and married for 10 years.
In that 16 years, Emily has continued to sing at weddings and gatherings (often accompanied by Will on the cello). She went back to school to achieve a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology, and now works to assess, diagnose, treat, and help prevent communication and swallowing disorders in adults. This is an especially important and specialized role for the elderly.
She is the mother of three wonderful daughters, the second of seven siblings, and daughter to two loving parents.
