Emily White Medical Fund

Some have asked for an address to send cards or other things, directly to Emily or her parents.   You can email me and I'll send it to you.  Take out spaces . . .  [email redacted] . com    (Emily's aunt)

Emily (age 20) was in a serious Jeep rollover accident while camping and off-roading with family and friends on May 23.

She is fighting to save her foot now, through various surgeries to clean the area and restore bones, nerves, muscles, skin, and function since her tibia & fibula were severely damaged.

She was transported from Flagstaff to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix for specialized care on May 25, after having two different surgeries.

She will undergo three additional surgeries over the next week. The last of these is when she will have muscle taken from another part of her body, including the artery and veins, which will be covered with a skin graft.

During this process of healing and multiple surgeries there is a serious threat of infection due to debris left in the open wound, that they are unable to completely remove.

If an infection can be averted, there is a chance of avoiding amputation.  Most likely, the decision to keep her foot or amputate will be determined in a couple of months after some healing takes place and infection is no longer a threat.

If she can stay clear of infection, she will still have a long recovery road ahead. There will be more surgeries over the next 8 months, then intense therapy for 3-4 months, with the goal to walk in about a year.

No matter what the future holds, it's full of more surgeries, physical therapy, and many visits to the doctor. The future is also full of hope, no matter the outcome!  So many are praying for Emily and it's appreciated.

What will these funds be used for?

** Obviously, medical costs
Emily is a full-time student and is covered by her parents' medical insurance, but they will need to meet their high deductible this year and probably future years. There may also be needs that fall outside of insurance coverage.

UPDATE  Since Emily will need prosthetics, there will be added expenses.  A basic leg will be (mostly?) covered by insurance, but they want to get one that can be used for sports and other activities.  That will not be covered and will probably cost $14K-$30K.  They've been told they will last 3-5 years.  There are also liners $500-$1000 that last only 6 months and sockets that can run $4K-7K that need to be replaced every year.  There will be plenty of ongoing expenses, many that insurance won't touch or won't fully cover.

**  Living expenses
Emily lives at home and will need a lot of care.  Lynn (mom) will need to take unpaid time off work to care for her.  James (dad) has had his income affected due to COVID-19, so their income is already reduced and finances are tight.

** Education (if any extra)
Emily will not be able to work this summer, as planned, to save up for college.  It may be a while before she is able to return to work or school, but that is her desire.

If you can't donate, no problem!  Your words of encouragement and prayers are appreciated ... and we're not just saying that.  Her family believes in the power of prayer and a God who can work a miracle, and they are sincerely thankful for those who are praying with them.

Beyond the clear need for prayers for healing and all the details involved with that, we also ask you to pray for comfort and emotional strength for Emily and her family to get through this, especially because they aren't allowed to be together due to COVID-19 right now.

THANK YOU!

P.S.  If you are looking for the meal sign up, they decided they're good on that for a while.  We may share a link at a later date, but things are pretty crazy right now and a few meals are coming, so they're set for a while.
