Emily Yoder's Flood Damage
Fellow CCSF member Emily Yoder (fiance of CCSF member Joshua Krueger, aka "Joshua David") recently experienced severe flooding that has caused major damage to her trailer. She needs our help! Here is her story:
"I’m from southeastern Kentucky, and we’re no stranger to flash floods here. It’s a yearly part of our culture, the origin of the saying, 'Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise.' Back in 2009, our area experienced 'the worst flood you’ll ever see in your lifetime,' and the river rose far beyond anything I’d ever seen.....but it stopped a good fifteen feet from where my trailer sits now. Surely, God forbid if ever there were a worse flood, water would only come up to my house, right? Maybe even up to a foot or two underneath, but everything inside would still be ok, right??
Wrong, apparently.
Fast forward twelve years, and here I am. With almost five inches of rain in 48 hours, and the river level cresting nearly five feet above that historically awful flood of ‘09, and about 8 inches of water in my home. I never imagined this level of devastation was possible for my community. I’m incredibly grateful that my neighbors were there to help me get almost all of my smaller, portable belongings to safety before the water came inside. I’m so grateful that my house didn’t float away.
The floors will need to be replaced, as well as the insulation underneath. I don’t know the extent of the damage to the walls, appliances and cupboards just yet. I know God has a plan for this little house, and I’ve already seen His protection and provision in so many ways. The timing of this does not make sense to me, as I have no flood insurance, and I’m in the middle of planning my wedding. But I know that God will somehow get the glory. And if God wants to use me and my little house, that’s the highest purpose anyone or any thing could ever hope to achieve. So I reckon that’s ok with me."
Emily estimates that replacing the flooring will cost a minimum of $2,500, which does not include labor. She will also need to replace insulation and it is likely she will need to replace some appliances as well. While CCSF probably can't fund the entire repair bill, we can certainly chip in! Please donate it you can!
