Our Beloved Emily

Donation protected
Emily Lugo Cabello was born July 11, 1948 in Tijuana, Mexico and has been a ray of light to her family ever since.  Her parents, Leonor and Jose had six children: Pat, Helen, Maria, Eva, Emily, and Gloria.

Emily grew up in Glendale, California during the '50s and '60s. She began working at a young age to help her parents and older siblings. She spent most of her life working side-by-side with her sisters; she worked in the garment industry, and later as a cosmotologist until retirement.

Most of the family would describe her as a second mom .Although she had no children, she helped raise her nieces and nephews as her own. She was the "fun aunt" who always knew when to give her support.  She was an excellent cook, her specialties were mole and potato salad. She was known for having the best memory in the household; always able to retell a story from her youth.  The oral history of our family is what it is because of her.  She was an avid reader and loved poetry. She was never afraid to speak her mind and always gave an honest opinion.  Especially to her sisters, she was wise and faithful; she always willingly gave advice and was a confidant whenever necessary.

Above all, she was extremely faithful to God and lived a life rich in prayer.  She was beyond selfless; always thinking of others. On September 8, 2016, Emily lost her battle with cancer. Even in her last days she was thinking of others before herself.  Her love, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever leave an imprint on our hearts.

This GoFundMe campaign is organized by Emily's nieces and nephews and all funds donated will be used exclusively towards her funeral expenses.  Since Emily meant so much to us, and dedicated her life to helping raise us, it would mean a lot to us to give her a beautiful and meaninful service.  We thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers, and generosity.
