Help Stay In Brazil With Daughter
Donation protected
Hi there,
I first would like to start off by saying thank you to all the wonderful people who donated. Because of your generous contributions, I was able to get a plane ticket to Brazil and reunite with my daughter. The reunion took place in November of 2016. The reunion was the first reunion in 6 years, and only the 3rd since my daughter was abducted in 2008 from Illinois.
Now, I am working on getting residency in Brazil to stay with my daughter and im calling for your help. I will start by giving you an idea of who I am and then I'll explain why life has led me here to a GoFundMe account seeking your help
I am Michael Sanchez. I'm just a guy who has had some tough breaks early in life, who met a girl that made him forget all of that and see the world as beautiful again. Our love was young, intense, and pure. In her, I could see everything I wanted to be and to have in life. Our tender ages meant nothing. I adored her.
In the beginning, I had very brief contact with my daughter. After the great disappointment of not being notified of Emily's birth, an intense joy followed as I held my sweet little girl in my arms for the very first time. I could not look away from her pure angelic face. She was the most beautiful parts of her mother, with aspects of me yet to reveal themselves. When her fingers curled around mine, I couldn't wait for all of this to continue; my seeing who little Emily would grow up to be. But I never did get the opportunity.
Nothing could have prepared me for the note I received in March of 2008 informing me of how my Emily was taken by her mother aboard a plane to Brazil. The note explained that she was afraid of losing custody and being deported. I love my daughter, need her, and miss her. My heart aches like it is breaking all over.
I feel broken. Each day seems longer than the next as I think of all those missed moments my child and I should have shared. All those smiles, giggles, birthdays, swings, hugs and holidays.
I grew up without my father in my life, and I promised my daughter that I would never be that father who walks away from the responsibility of being a parent. I lost my mom suddenly from a heart attack at the age of just 16-years old.
When my Emily was taken from the country, I immediately went to the police in my town of Berwyn Illinois, the very place my daughter was born, and I filled a missing persons report. I started calling everyone from the Illinois State Police, Congress, Senators and Lawyers, and more.
On September 25th, 2008, I was successful in getting Emily listed with the national center for missing & exploited children and other missing children's organisations. Through our courts, I eventually obtained sole, physical and legal custody of my daughter.
During this struggle, I finally got a small measure of relief. On September 2, 2010, when INTERPOL in Brazil managed to locate the whereabouts of Emily.
I thought my heart would burst when, after years of searching I finally saw my sweet daughter Emily on August 17, 2011 in Brazil and held her in my arms. Such an intense feeling of joy washed over me, but it was tinged with a pain I worked hard to push back. I lost that happy feeling when it was clear I would not see my child again.
In my child's life of eight years, we have spent a broken collection of time together that may add up to 6 weeks.
Despite all of the difficulties that I may still face, I will not stop fighting for my daughter. I will continue to fight for Emily's return home. I will deeply appreciate any help you can provide to help me return to Brazil to see my daughter.
Michael
P.S.
I am willing to share more about my story and goals if you'd like, and below there are links you can check out if you'd like to. As well as trying to get back to Brazil, I am not only sitting around, j am pushing for federal legislation to stop parental abduction, along with spreading awareness to other families so they don't have to go through the pain I did. A child deserves to know and love both parents.
The funds will be used for the following purposes
1. Transportation cost (Air, bus, cab, etc)
2. Lodging, food expenses, Room & Board, and anything else needed during my stay.
3. Paperwork for the process of potential residency request
5. International Phone service
6. Translation services into the Portuguese language
