Emily's Brain Cancer Journey and Recovery

Hi, my family and I have created this gofundme for my sister-in-law, Emily.

In early September, Emily suffered a grand mal seizure and her scans revealed that she has a brain tumour that is large and complex. That same day, she was told she was no longer allowed to work or drive. Lots of news all at once. The neurosurgeon was able to remove a chunk of it in November and it took several weeks to find out that it was what they call a grade 2 Astrocytoma (Brain Cancer).

Emily has been recommended to start radiation and chemo treatments (chemo is only offered to her via pill form which is an out-of-pocket expense and not paid for by the government) to hopefully shrink the tumour to avoid any loss of speech, eyesight, and cognitive abilities. On top of all that, she found out that she has to go to a fertility clinic since treatments will affect her ability to have children.

Emily was self-employed as a “Nanny on Wheels” and worked part-time also. She does not have benefits to help with any medical expenses or prescriptions - which are adding up quickly. Unfortunately, like many people, her job was impacted by Covid and she does not have enough hours to qualify for employment insurance to help with her loss of income now that she cannot work.

These funds will help Emily with her prescription costs, transportation costs from North Bay to Sudbury for treatments and scans, along with her everyday bills such as house expenses, utilities, groceries, etc.

If you know even just a little about Emily, you know how huge her heart is. You know that she is one of the first people to lend a hand, offer a listening ear or a shirt off of her back. Emily is incredibly strong and with our help, she can focus on her treatments and recovery from this tumour.
