Emma & Ben’s South Devon Coastal walk fundraiser

Emma and Ben are walking the South Devon Coastal path, starting from Kingsbridge to Salcombe to raise vital funds and awareness for a charity close to their hearts, Brain Tumour Support.

In March, Ben, a veteran, lost a life long military friend ex Royal Lancer Philip Marson aka Gerry, following a brave and courageous battle against his tumour.

Sadly this was not the first loss that his former regiment had suffered, following the death of his best friend Alaric Harrison. Alaric, also a former Royal Lancer from the 9th/12th passed away from his brain tumour less than a year ago. Along with former Lancer Terry Skeels, this brings the total to three men lost from one regiment to the same disease.

Emma, who continues to raise funds and awareness for a number of brain tumour charities, lost her father David four years ago.

“Through working alongside charities, it has highlighted just how common and prevalent brain tumours are. They don’t distinguish between age groups or genders, they just simply rip people out of our lives and it’s brutal. We have lost many from our local community and surrounding towns and tragically very young members such as Harry Durose aged 4 and Oakley Wright aged 16.

Like Ben, I have colleagues in my work community currently suffering the devastating effects of the disease. I was introduced to the charity by my close friend David Stubbs, a local police officer, who is recovering well from the effects of his brain tumour. He has become a charity champion for The Brain Tumour Support and has been the driving force and inspiration behind me to make a difference.

This walk is a remembrance walk for all of our friends, family and wider community who lives have been changed forever.”
