Emma Lyons - Figure skater training

Dear everyone,

My daughter Emma Lyons is 12 years old and is working incredibly hard to become a world-class figure skater. Although she competes against older girls she has achieved amazing results, including 12 podium positions and and an incredible bronze medal at the British Figure Skating Championships, under 15 category.

Emma has been a figure skater for 6 years at Deeside Ice rink under the fantastic coach, Hayley Pardo and is currently ranked 4th in the National rankings, under 15. 
Before the closure of ice rinks she was also coached by the European, World and Olympic coaches Simon and Debi Briggs one weekend a month on ice in Dundee.

It has been amazing to see Emma grow as an athlete under their excellent guidance and the inspiration from training with elite skaters and Senior ladies figure skating champions. 

Emma’s main training rink, Deeside Ice rink, where she has trained for the past 6 years is being used, until the end of the winter 2021, to support the NHS as a Rainbow  Field hospital.

During this time and into the future Emma would love to train at weekends and school holidays in Dundee. Unfortunately, whilst we as Emma’s parents and extended family support her in every way we can and put every spare penny to help her, we are unable to come up with the additional costs of staying in Dundee when the ice rinks open.

Emma is a lovely, energetic child with a zest for life. She is passionate about sport, earlier this year she gained second place at an international figure skating competition

and returned home to represent North East Wales at the Welsh Schools cross country championships. She loves to compete and perform and gives it her all. 

Figure skating is her life and passion!

Whilst missing the ice enormously she has continued with amazing tenacity during lockdown, training on roller skates and zoom classes in jump technique, flexibility and power and fitness.
