Emma Millsap serving through Newlife

I am excited to share with you that I will join Newlife as a missionary through a program called Newlife International School of Midwifery, located in Davao, Philippines. I received a last-minute invitation to join the incoming cohort, and my departure date is around the corner, September 13th. I have been researching and praying about this for months now, but it appeared there wasn’t room for me this session; but my dear friend Annie kept encouraging me, "saying I think you will receive an email soon." On Sunday, August 27th, I was dropping off my sister Anna at Service Adventure in Jackson, Mississippi, when I opened my email and found an invitation to join Newlife if I could be there in 3 weeks. I was surprised and excited to see the door reopen that I thought was temporarily closed. As the shock wore off, I set to work getting things in order to move to the Philippines for 2.5 years.
I have felt my heart called to serve overseas during my high school years. I was drawn to midwifery as a way to help serve the extremely poor who suffer high mortality rates in moms and babies. I have witnessed how birth can be a transformational event. I am honored to continue my training to become a Certified Professional Midwife while in the Philippines on the mission field. I want to be a missionary midwife to the poor communities and underserved and that is exactly what Newlife does.
Newlife School is a US-based school that offers academic and clinical training at a birthing center in Davao. The clinic and school are part of a Christian mission organization comprised of Western missionaries and a wonderful group of Filipino Christian workers, numbering approximately 80 people.
The school is operated as an extension of the birthing center, the largest charity-based birthing clinic in the Philippines, serving almost 15,000 patients annually. The clinic serves families living in impoverished conditions who cannot afford quality maternal healthcare. Newlife simply desires to show women and their families God's mercy and kindness in a practical way, as Jesus taught. The hands-on and deeply relational skill of midwifery is a powerful avenue to bring God's love and compassion to suffering people.
There are different ways to support me, whether in prayer, encouragement, or financial support. Regardless of the combination of support that works for you, I hope you choose to come along with me. I am endlessly grateful for my amazing community and look forward to keeping you all informed through an email newsletter. Please send
The Lord has been preparing me for this and has given me many opportunities to make money over the years; however, He has left plenty of space to grow my faith as I trust Him to provide $10,000 before I finish the program! I have been floored that He has already provided, in the one short week I have been working on this my goal of raising $6000 before I go has been met! Praise the Lord!! If you are able to help me in this way, that would be wonderful… just give me a call; I would love to share with you what I am about to do. I can also send you more donation information.
My family will also be hosting a fundraiser pizza night this fall, we just do not have time to do it before I leave, stay tuned, mom will keep you informed.
I am so excited to get on the ground and continue learning and working while serving women and babies in the Philippines. As I deal with all the emotions of preparing to depart, I want to thank each one of you for being a part of my life in such impactful ways!
I believe prayer is the best way you can support me, so I have included a prayer list!
